Week-long Kayak Camps for Kids and Teens

This summer, children and teens can take to the water and learn about the Chesapeake Bay. The Mariners’ Museum is partnering with Chesapeake Experience to offer three weeks of kayak camps for children ages 9 – 12 and teens ages 12 – 15.

During these full-day, week-long camps, participants learn about the ecology of the Chesapeake Bay through hands-on activities and tours of The Mariners’ Museum. Each day, kayak excursions on Lake Maury, the James River and other local waterways allow participants to explore the life of the Bay up-close and personal. Of course, students also learn the basics of kayaking before ever heading out into the water.

Adventures for Groups

Take your students on a fieldtrip and leave the work to us! We’ll provide the stories, artifacts, crafts, games, and FUN—you provide the kids! They’ll have a blast (and learn something too) during one of The Mariners’ Museum’s day-long summer programs.

 

A Trip Around the World with Hardtack-the-Mouse!
Best for rising PS-4th grade students
Let your students “set sail” with The Mariners’ Museum’s mascot, Hardtack-the-Mouse, as he ventures around the world! Students will explore the Museum with Hardtack while hearing lively tales, making crafts from around the world, and uncovering rare objects from different continents.

 

Park Adventures
Best for rising K-8th grade students
Bring your students to The Mariners’ Museum Park on a quest for nature’s secrets!
Participants will play outdoor games, explore the woodland trails, and make crafts with natural treasures.

The Pirate’s Life for Me!
Best for rising K-8th grade students
Participants will spend the day tracing the footsteps of a buccaneer! During this popular program, students will stock a ship, lead a pirate gang, and hunt for treasure!

 

TITANIC
Best for rising 1st-8th grade students
Participants will “become” a passenger aboard the R.M.S. Titanic as they learn about the different passengers aboard.  During their “journey,” students will create their own vintage travel journals and postcards, as well as decipher Titanic’s wireless message!

 

Civil War: Special Ops

Do any of your students ever dream of being a spy?  Students will step back in time to uncover secrets about the building of the Civil War’s first ironclad ships – the USS Monitor and CSS Virginia. They will decipher code, race to infiltrate enemy lines, retrieve coveted plans, and witness the outcome to the Battle of Hampton Roads!

Program length and activities can be adjusted to accommodate the needs of your group.

Cost is only $12-15 per child for a 4-6 hour program.
Actual cost is based on the number of children participating and the length of your program.

One adult will be admitted free-of-charge for every 5 students to assist with program supervision.
Groups can schedule a fieldtrip with a minimum of 15 students, maximum of 100 students.

Program itineraries include a 45-60 minute lunch period. Students must bring their own lunches; however, picnic tables are available for students to enjoy their meal. Indoor lunch accommodations will be arranged in the event of inclement weather.
